Early Friday morning, the team traveled to the Oberhallau Hillclimb in Schaffhausen and set up at the paddock. The paperwork and car inspection were quickly completed, leaving us plenty of time for a track walk and a bit of a chat at the circuit.
On Saturday morning, we started the first of three practice runs. Michel Zemp felt comfortable in the Norma Helftec-Honda and finished a solid run in 1:13.185. His main rival in the 2-liter class, Victor Darbellay, spun in the final corner.
For the second practice run, we made changes to the setup, and Michel Zemp steadily improved in both the second and third practice runs, finishing Saturday with a time of 1:10.942, just ahead of Victor Darbellay, who was hot on our heels with 1:11.056. The 3-liter Nova drivers Faustini, Amweg, and Steiner ran times in the high 1:07s and high 1:08s. Excitement for race Sunday was inevitable.
The night before Sunday was clear and cool, and Sunday dawned with bright sunshine. After the church service, Michel Zemp started the first race run. The changes made on Saturday paid off, and after an almost perfect run with only one small mistake, Michel crossed the finish line in 1:10.030. This was a new class record, previously held by the fast Austrian Christoph Lampert (1:10.405). Victor Darbelley ran 1:11.086, Thomas Amweg 1:10.366 (3-liter class). Marcel Steiner unfortunately had bad luck and did not finish. This left Michel in second place behind Faustini!
The second race run had to decide the outcome. Michel gave it his all once again, had a good start, and after an almost perfect run, he improved yet again, becoming the first 2-liter driver to break the 1:10 barrier, clocking 1:09.789. Another class record! Victor improved to 1:10.884, and Thomas (3-liter class) also improved, finishing in 1:08.987. This left Michel in third place overall after two race runs. In the third race run, we took no further risks, as there was an oil patch on the upper part of the track and visibility was poor in the low sun, making faster runs impossible.
Michel Zemp and the TOMAC Racing Team thus maintained their third place overall and won the class for cars up to 2 liters with a new class record. Heartfelt congratulations!
In the championship, Michel Zemp / TOMAC Racing Team remain in an excellent second place overall after six of the eight races, competing against the significantly stronger 3-liter class.
In two weeks, the action continues at the Gurnigel Hillclimb.
